i used to be boxed into small repertoire. i kept constantly looking for new repertoire and commissioning new arrangements. if you look at the first of the program you have very early, young vibrant mendelson; fabulous opener and then you have this fabulous concerto written for us in the orchestra. is our gift. msk(music) >> and then you have strauss, extraordinary piece. the most challenging of all. string orchestra work. 23 solo instrument, no violin section, now viola section; everybody is responsible for their part in this piece. the challenge is something that i felt not only that we could do , absolutely could do, but i wanted to show off. i can't tell you how aware i am of the audience. not only what i hear but their vibes, so strong. i have been doing this for a long time. i kind of make them feel what i want them to feel. there is nobody in that audience or anywhere that is not going to know that particular song by the fourth note. and that is our encore on tour. by the way. i am proud to play it, we are from san fran

the government now tells us that hey -- they hired a lot more last year than previously believed. auto seafls are up 14% from last year. housing sales are coming back. on the other hand the economy took a pause at the end of last year? unemployment is very high, 7.9%. among men between 25 and 54 one out of six is not working. so i think when you cut through all this what do you see? well, the stock market is going like this and the economy is going like this. that can't last. i can't explain the stock market except maybe there was a gigantic sigh of relief. the republicans aren't going to force the u.s. freshry due default and the europeans aren't going to blow themselves up economically. you see an economy that's growing -- slowly. growing is better than not growing. the europeans are trying the not growing thing. the private sector is healing. in the last three months the private sector added 625,000 jobs and the public sector, state, local, and federal governments cut 25,000 jobs. but what we see the -- is the prospect that the government could start making things worse again.

did they keep us back? looking at the bottom five, i see some stocks that could give us oomph, but others that might not cooperate. the fifth one that's pulled us down, i'm going from real bad to horrible since the generational bottom in 2009 is alcoa. that's gained only 58% from the bottom. i have no problem envisioning at a much higher price but it traded $18 in 2010 after the bottom, a far cry from the $47 level. stock's at $8, wow, that's a current bottom, right, and that's what we're seeing. nevertheless, don't look for alcoa to give you any near term help unless it gets taken over. including the one that just paid top dollar for alcan not that long ago, i wouldn't hold my breath for a takeout. i don't see the earnings power to take the stock higher any time soon. it's not going to help us. fourth worst, cisco. i think cisco could be a big winner in 2013. even as the stock is acting terribly courtesy of john chambers when it reported last. i have never in all of my years of following cisco seen this st

[applause] the michelle rhee we thank you for joining us and we know you had some busy-- pierce morgan, head john stuart, as cnn and we have our old friend here from c-span filming this event so people from the united states can benefit from what you have to say. just to kickstart how did you come up with a fascinating and interesting book "radical" and where does the name come from? >> guest: i think the genesis of the name is interesting that when i first got to d.c. fellow was performing in the most defunct glad -- dysfunctional district in the nation that was a widely known truce. i did things that i thought were obvious for school districts in that state, a closing low performing schools, moving out in the affected employees, cutting the bureaucracy in half and as i was taking these steps people started to say she is a firebrand, a radical, a controversial and i thought really? finally i said if reconnaissance to a dysfunctional system makes me a radical then i am okay without. that was embracing that concept for the name of the book. >> host: some people call you anti-teacher but
